Morocco in a Moment – by Laurie Kuntz
Wet cobblestones and tight alleyways
lead to a calico cat sprawled
against a blue wood door, slightly ajar,
exposing the veiled lady in the shadowed frame,
our shared, dark eyes meet
and with no language, but gestured commonalities,
I bend toward her cat, rubbing against my ankles.
Perfect purrs accept a stranger’s hand.
This woman and I share a smile,
but only for a moment–then we return
to our strange, strange, separate, lives
