The piggies are gone – by Suzanne Dudley

When I tell my mom,
She says they’ve gone to market.
I say, Oh, like my toes?
She laughs.

But, I am sad.
The fields are empty
except for grass, the water tub,
and some dry manure.

I put my face out the window
of the car. The sun feels yellow,
and I smell apples.
