What the Hibiscus Shouts – by Laurie Kuntz

Posted on Jul 5, 2017 by in July 2017 | 2 comments

Every bloom is a shout,
red against grey cloud cover
bellows an awakening–
even strays snapping at the humidity
stop to sniff the opening notes
of a dusted yellow stamen,
sticking a teasing tongue out
from its horned mouth
to all who fail to notice–
the hibiscus bends from the weight
of its red beauty and kisses the soil
from which it grows.
