Imaginings – by Lynn Carol Cohen
“Only the imagination is real.”
—William Carlos Williams
“A Boy’s Will is the Wind’s Will.
And the Thoughts of Youth are Long. Long Thoughts.”
—Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
I remember my motor boat
over fifty years ago,
where we made love among
the cadences of the quiet waves.
I lived in fantasy:
confused sex with love;
lust for forever.
And although I know
I cannot control the passing moments,
I do not mourn my gone days,
dead lovers, husband and cousins.
I can live in the present
as my grandson turns six,
his lips open like a rosebud in spring
with the wonder of the season.
